"OMG wut r u doing fuker"
―Slutborn, when he sees Ebony in his "efface”.

Professor Slutborn was the Portents Professor at Hogwarts in the 1980s.

It appears that Professor Slutborn is very loosely based on Professor Slughorn from the books.

Role in the story[]

In Chapter 34 Slutborn makes an appearance - he is sitting on a table on drinking a "portent".

Ebony steals an amnesia potion from his "efface" in Chapter 37, which she plans to use it on Tom Satan Bombodil to make him fall in love with her faster. During the heist, he walks into the office, asks what she's doing here, and then it appears that she asks him the same question back - as if he needs a reason to be in his own office. However, Ebony immediately afterwards claims she "thought it was class", which he believes and lets her go.

Slutborn inexplicably appears in the final chapter, though it is not set in the 80s and in the 2000s the portents professor was Snap (with Cornelia Fudge covering classes after Snap's imprisonment in Abkhazian). He delivers the final pun of "Oh my goth!".

Appearance[]

Ebony describes him as a "tall gottik man wif long blak hair, pail skin and blue eyes wering a suit and blak Cronvrese shoes". He also looks like Charlyn Manson.

Differences from the original[]

If professor Slutborn is based on Professor Horace Slughorn, the similarities are very hard to find. However, it isn't really fair to extensively compare Slutborn to his canon counterpart, as he doesn't make that many appearances in My Immortal. Still, what is described is worth mentioning.

His appearance, for example, is described as being a tall gothic man with long black hair. The original Slughorn is described as a short, bald and fat. It is explicitly said his belly usually enters the room before the rest of him. Horace Slughorn is also known for his preference in luxurious clothes. Since Slutborn is described as a gothic man, it can be assumed he wears all black, like the rest of the goffs, forgoing the luxury Slughorn prefers.

Slughorn's most infamous trait is how he picks favorites among the students. These students usually have extraordinary qualities or influential connections, which Slughorn likes to exploit. This trait isn't mentioned with Slutborn, but, once again, his short role in My Immortal doesn't allow him to elaborate wether he shares this trait or not.

What can be compared between Slughorn and Slutborn is his overall demeanor. Slughorn, despite his flaws, is a kindly old man who only raises his voice when backed into a corner. Slutborn, on the other hand, shouts almost all of his lines, utters profanity and, like many of the other teachers, hasn't a shred of professionalism required for the job.

Unlike the canon Slughorn (whose personality differs between the books and movies but generally has some sort of cunning and self-pride), Slutborn appears to be very easy to fool/misdirect, one moment yelling at Enoby for being in his "efface" and the next having the tables turned on him when she retaliates with what amounts to a "no you", apologizing for being in his workplace.

All in all, Slutborn is difficult to compare to Slughorn, due to his small role, but the things that can be compared show Slutborn is a completely unrecognizable character.

Interestingly, despite Ebony claiming she hadn't read all of the books and based the fic off the movies, she still featured Slutborn, despite him not appearing within the movies until Half Blood Prince's film adaptation. It's quite possible Raven told Tara about him and other plot elements from later books, but how much Tara was paying attention is questionable.
