Posers are people who do not follow their own ideas of what they like. Following no one set norm makes you real and following no one set norm makes you poser.

Poser is governed not by the clothes, music, or makeup you wear, but rather by the state of your mind and the conformity to your own beliefs. In short, a person who attempts to blend into a specific social group to which they do not truly belong.

At least, that's the real-world definition. In My Immortal, the definition appears to be "any person trying to be goff without Enoby's approval". A poser can look and act like a Stanist goff and know all the popular lyrics of MCR and GC, but a real goff convert needs to go through horrible abuse and trauma. Or know a non-single or change pink roses to black. And even if you have gone through all of that, you will not become a goff if you don't have Enoby's approval.

Known posers[]

Albert Dumblydore[]

Albert Dumblydore dressed as a goff when he fought Volzemort during his second hijack of an MCR concert. The following day, he painted the Grate Hall black, but pink paint could be seen underneath the black, revealing he wasn't a true goff at all.

When he tried to befriend Ebony, Dumblydore was shouted at for being a poser.

Hargrid[]

Hargrid claims to be a Satanist and a goff, but it is clear he only does it to win over Ebony romantically. The fact he tries to poison her with Amnesia potion clearly suggests he is not on her side and being on her side is a hard requirement for true goffikness.

Loopin[]

Loopin tried to buy a goffic camera pouch from Tom Rid's Store, but clearly isn't goffic, which is enough to be designated as poser.

Snap[]

Like Loopin, Snap tried to buy a goffic camera pouch from Tom Rid's store, but clearly isn't goffic, which is enough to be designated as poser. He also played in Tom Satan Bombodil's goffic band in his youth and seemed to be goffic, but possessed James, forcing him to shoot Lucian. This suggests he wasn't goffic at all from the start.

Notes[]

  • According to the story's logic, the adult Voldemort should also be considered a poser. He is explicitly mentioned as wearing all black, but not being goffik, which fits the definition of poser. However, his only designation is prep, even being called an ugly preppy man on several occasions.
